The Diocese of Lucknow within the Church of North India was constituted at the time of inauguration of the Church and the first Bishop the Right Reverend Din Dayal was installed on the 13th December 1970 in the Cathedral Church of All Saints’ in Allahabad, having received his instrument of Election and Appointment on the 30th November 1970, on the second day of the Inaugural services of the Church.

The first Diocesan Council of the Lucknow Diocese was called on the 21st of February 1970 in Allahabad according to the provisions of the Plan of Church Union by the Diocesan Consultation Committee under the terms of a mandate given by the Inaugural Committee of the Church of North India.
